Jamie Carragher states if Harry Kane will ever win a trophy after Champions League heartache

Not many could blame Harry Kane for deciding to leave Tottenham Hotspur last summer.

The 30-year-old stuck by the cause time and time again at Tottenham, yet that trophy never arrived and he needed to leave to fulfil his ambitions of becoming a serial trophy winner.

Harry Kane tried to leave Spurs well before last summer. That well-documented move to Manchester City didn’t materialise – and looking at Erling Haaland now, he must look at that and think ‘what could have been’.

But when he decided to join Bayern Munich, many thought this was going to be the season that he, not only broke his trophy duck, but on several occasions. The German club had not gone trophyless since 2012.

Yet, after Wednesday night, Kane would have felt that sunken feeling he felt many a time when at Tottenham.

Bayern had just shot themselves in the foot, allowed Real Madrid to score two late goals and were knocked out of the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Thomas Tuchel’s call to substitute Kane was also a huge mistake, but that wait for a trophy still goes on.

Many will now be asking if it will ever happen for Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer and if he actually might finish his career without lifting any silverware.

Jamie Carragher was confident enough to say that a trophy will land on his doorstep sooner rather than later, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (08/05/24 at 10:20 pm).

Bayern Munich beaten in Champions League semi-final by Real Madrid

“He will win trophies for Bayern Munich, he will,” said Carragher after Bayern were knocked out of the Champions League.

“If he is there for another two years, they will get the Bundesliga back that’s what Bayern Munich do in the competition. You can’t expect to win the Champions League every season.

“What I mean by that is Bayern Munich will always be there. They will always be in the quarters and semis. You need a bit of luck. You need that. We say how great Real Madrid are and, at times, they have had a bit of fortune. Manuel Neuer, who was the best player on the pitch, spills that. How often does that happen? Once a season or twice a season. And it has just happened at a vital time.”

Harry Kane’s stats

Just like at Spurs, from an individual aspect, Kane has been outstanding once again and you can’t fault him too much.

The season isn’t over yet, but from 32 Bundesliga matches, he has 36 goals and eight assists.

In all competitions, he has bagged 44, including eight in the Champions League. Half of those came during the knockout stages.

Like always, he is doing his job and putting the ball in the back of the net. He is just being let down by those around him.
