Surely every club in the world would want to sign Cristiano Ronaldo right? Well, that's not the case.

Over four years ago in February 2020, the footballing icon was ripping it up in Italy as he starred for Juventus in Serie A.

He had scored 22 for the European giants during his second season at the club following a £100million move from Real Madrid.

And of course, Ronaldo was attracting interest from other teams, with Bayern Munich linked multiple times.

Bayern were heavily reported to be looking at the five-time Ballon d'Or winner ahead of the summer transfer window in 2020.

However, that was when the club's president at the time, Herbert Hainer, came out to deny the rumours.

Hainer was brutal in his response to questions about the situation, saying: "There are a number of names going around.

"Cristiano is too old for us."

Ronaldo was 35 and most players would be coming to the end of their playing careers by that age.

So the president's response was straight to the point, but it was possibly true at the time, however, we now know the Real Madrid legend had many more years left.

After Hainer's comments, Ronaldo would go on to win the Serie A title and score a whopping 31 league goals.

He then scored another 29 the following season while becoming the first player ever to win every major domestic trophy in England, Spain and Italy.

A move back to Manchester United would follow, with that return ending on a very sour note two years ago.

However, Ronaldo continues to score goals with Al Nassr at the age of 39, proving getting old isn't stopping him from finding the net.

If things had gone differently for the icon, he could have found himself at Bayern in the Bundesliga.

But they instead opted to sign Leroy Sane from Manchester City and he is playing against Ronaldo's former club this season.

Sane will feature as the Germans take on Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final, live on talkSPORT.
