PSG 0-1 Borussia Dortmund (0-2) LIVE REACTION: Mbappe suffers more Champions League heartbreak in final season as Sancho reaches Wembley

Kylian Mbappe suffered Champions League heartbreak to Borussia Dortmund in his final European game for Paris Saint-Germain.

The World Cup winner was powerless to help his boyhood club overturn their 1-0 first-leg deficit as PSG lost to a single goal again.

The French giants were 1-0 down to Dortmund, who won the first leg in Germany thanks to a winner from Niclas Fullkrug.

Mbappe, who is playing what is set to be his final campaign with PSG, failed to truly penetrate the Dortmund defence throughout.

He then watched on helplessly as PSG were again beaten 1-0 on the night thanks to a Mats Hummels bullet header.

PSG desperately tried to rescue the tie by throwing men forwards and hit the frame of the goal on several occasions but Dortmund held firm to protect the clean sheet and reach Wembley.

  • And that's it from us!

Kylian Mbappe's farewell to life in the Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain has been spoiled with Borussia Dortmund booking their place in the final.

The French superstar had hoped to end his final season in Paris with the ultimate prize of lifting the Champions League, however, Dortmund had other ideas.

  • 'Football is so unfair sometimes'

PSG boss Luis Enrique to TNT Sports: "When the result is that, yes it's difficult of course.

"A tight match, but to be honest I think we have to win the match. We created 31 shots, four [times hitting the woodwork] - football is so unfair sometimes.

"Congratulations to them. They are a great team and I hope they can go to the final and win it."

  • 'I don't see why we shouldn't win at Wembley'

Man of the match Mats Hummels to DAZN via Uefa.com: "I’ve scored far too few Champions League goals in my career, just five. Now is a good time to add to that number.

"Since the second match of the group stage, we've believed that we can prevail in every game - and I don't see why we shouldn't win at Wembley now.

"We remained active today and were able to take so much pace out of the game and atmosphere out of the stadium. That was our recipe for success today."

  • 'We've grown with every game'

Edin Terzic speaking to DAZN: "Before the first game against PSV Eindhoven, we talked for the first time about how short the journey to London could be.

"Back then, many were still puzzled. Last season, we lost the championship at home on the last matchday.

"I'm happy that we can now give something back to the fans. We've grown with every game and eventually realised that we could be the team that surprises everyone in the end. Now I'm very happy to be in the final with my team."

  • 'Mbappe was very subdued'

Ferdinand told TNT Sports: "This is unusual for Kylian Mbappe. We are accustomed to seeing him at the biggest stage.

"All through his career he has seemed to step up, but over the two legs he has been very subdued.

"You have to give Dortmund massive credit. They didn’t allow Mbappe to get one v one.

"Those big players find something when they get into a space. The chance at the end, the volley, that was a chance for him to being clinical.

"But, more credit goes to the team in yellow, Dortmund. The manager Edin Terzic deserves massive credit."

  • 'How we won, no-one will ask'

Marco Reus speaking to DAZN"Indescribable. After more than 10 years, I am in the final with Borussia again.

"Ousmane [Dembele] and Achraf [Hakimi] brought a tremendous amount of pace and we suffered a lot.

"How we won the game, no-one will ask tomorrow. Shots against the post won’t matter tomorrow. What counts is that Borussia Dortmund are in the final again. Nobody expected this. It's just incredible."

  • 'Exceptional performance'

Owen Hargreaves told TNT Sports: "The goalkeeper Gregor Kobel made big saves. Niclas Fullkrug was a great outlet for Dortmund and the whole team is a proper team - exceptional performance.

"They are 24 points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and they are getting to a Champions League final."

He added: "Nobody fancied Dortmund in the group of death. They had PSG, AC Milan and Newcastle.

"Dortmund were the weakest team, but they got some big wins.

"Dortmund found a way of being there without any superstars

"Edin Terzic has done a fantastic job in the Champions League to find solutions."

  • Post to post

Paris Saint-Germain have hit the woodwork 14 times in the UEFA Champions League this season, the most on record (since 2003-04) by any team in a single campaign.

Six of these have come in the semi-final tie against Borussia Dortmund (2 in first leg, 4 tonight).

  • Final four curse

    • Paris Saint-Germain have lost all six legs of their three two-legged UEFA Champions League semi-final appearances, also doing so vs Milan in 1994-95 and Manchester City in 2020-21.

  • Revenge tastes sweet

Dortmund have waited four years to send this tweet!

PSG memorably celebrated like Haaland following their Champions League win in 2020 but now the fate has been reversed.

  • 'Dortmund made this PSG team look average'

Rio Ferdinand told TNT: "Individuals performing all over the pitch, the two Dortmund centre-backs [Mats Hummels and Nico Schlotterbeck] were the man of the match.

"Dortmund were a team looking confident knowing what the task was. Dortmund made this PSG team look average."

  • 'Tactical masterclass'

talkSPORT's Ally McCoist told TNT Sports: "Thoroughly deserved by Dortmund. What a performance over the 180 minutes - a tactical masterclass.

"Dortmund were organised, they knew they would get one or two chances and the two centre-backs were outstanding.

"They did enough to be dangerous on the break and it has been a triumph for football."

  • DORTMUND REACH WEMBLEY REACTION

While hitting the bar late on, Mbappe failed to truly penetrate the Dortmund defence throughout.

However one man who lit up the stage again was Jadon Sancho.

The on-loan Manchester United star caused real problems throughout both legs of the tie, but it wasn’t enough to impress Danny Mills who told talkSPORT: “Jadon Sancho, for all the hype in the first leg, I think has been very ordinary in the second.”
