Darren Bent says 37-year-old wouldn’t swap lower league job for West Ham United manager

Will David Moyes still be at West Ham United next season? You feel his time has come to an end.

After winning the Europa Conference League last season, many would have felt that the fans would have been more upbeat and encouraging about this campaign, especially given that they can still finish in Europe.

But it has been far from it and there is the sense that West Ham United will have a new manager next season.

Sources have told HITC that ex-Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui is a man who is impressing West Ham chairman David Sullivan as he looks for a new boss.

One of the key criticisms of Moyes’ tenure has been his style of play and how he isn’t getting more out of his current stars.

From Manchester City transfer target Lucas Paqueta to Mohamed Kudus. These are ball-playing footballers who love to entertain and supporters feel they are being restricted in a defensive system.

That’s why it will be key for the powers that be in East London to bring in somebody who is going to entertain them, as well as keep them in Europe.

But who is on the market for the Hammers to bring in? Especially, when a club the size of Liverpool are expected to appoint the lesser-known name of Arne Slot ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s departure.

Darren Bent discussed the idea of Kieran McKenna swapping Ipswich Town for the London Stadium.

The former Ipswich striker doesn’t think McKenna, 37, would take the gig if it was offered to him, as he told talkSPORT (02/05/24 at 4:40 pm).

The Tractor Boys could be playing Premier League football next season. They only need one point from the final game of the Championship season on Saturday and they are returning to the elite after a two-decade absence – and also achieving remarkable back-to-back promotions.

Kieran McKenna at West Ham United

“Going from a club like Ipswich to Manchester United, that jump is way too big,” said Bent. “Obviously, he has got the philosophy there, he has the ideas and he knows exactly what he wants from his team. He wants them to play. It’s about putting it into practice, at that elite level.

On who is a bigger club West Ham or Ipswich: “Ipswich have the European history, which I get (1981 UEFA Cup). But West Ham have been in the Premier League, for how long?

On if West Ham come in for McKenna: “I think he stays. I know you have to strike when the iron is hot. In this scenario, he has everything at his disposal that he needs to succeed at Ipswich. You are almost ripping that up and starting again. If you are going to one of the big, big boys. You might go ‘It might never happen again. I respect that’. I am not saying West Ham aren’t a big club because they are, but I don’t think they offer enough yet for Kieran McKenna to jump ship. They play risky football. High-risk and high reward.”

Pressure on the next West Ham United manager

You can’t argue that the next man to take to the dugout will be under immense pressure simply because of the noise around the job.

Whatever you think, there has been a divide. Some feel Moyes is being harshly treated and needs to be respected more.

Others are critical and feel he is too defensive for such a strong team that he has.

All in all, this civil war doesn’t help matters for the new man and you just know certain sections of the media and the fanbase will be ready to pile in if things start to go wrong at the start of next season.
