Paris Saint-Germain have held talks with representatives of Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, talkSPORT understands.

The French giants are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Guimaraes this summer, along with Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Guimaraes has a £100million release clause in his contract which expires at the end of June.

As talkSPORT has previously reported, the Magpies face having to sell one of their star players to help stay on the right side of Premier League spending rules.

Newcastle paid £35m to sign Guimaraes from Lyon in January 2022 so any offer near the 26-year-old’s release clause will represent a significant profit on the balance sheet.

It is understood the Brazil international has a burning desire to play in the Champions League.

However, Toon boss Eddie Howe is reluctant to sell his star man.

Speaking earlier this month, Howe said: “My intention would be to keep Bruno for as long as we possibly can because I can.

“But I can never make guarantees because that would be absolutely foolish of me. I’ve been in football long enough to know you never know what is going to happen tomorrow.

"But he’s an integral part of the team and playing really well at the moment.

"A lot will depend on our ambitions and where the club is going in the foreseeable future. We need to show we’re moving forward.”

Howe added: "Players like Bruno are not around every corner. They are very, very rare. Bruno should be appreciated for everything he brings.”

Newcastle are also braced for bids from Europe's biggest clubs for star striker Alexander Isak.

Despite numerous injuries, the Swede is in the running for this season's Premier League Golden Boot with 17 goals in 25 games.

Arsenal and Barcelona have both been linked with the 25-year-old, who the Magpies value at around £90m.

Newcastle are keen to renegotiate Isak's current contract, which could see his wages reduced by 20 per cent due to a clause related to Champions League qualification.

talkSPORT understands the Magpies want to put Isak's salary on par with Guimaraes, who is currently the club's top earner.
