Ritchie took his test at Tyne & Wear LGV Driver Training Centre and will return in the future to undertake his Category C+E licence.

As a thank you, he even bought a selection of cakes and sweet treats for the staff from Build A Bake, a bespoke bakery from Jesmond in Newcastle.

For the Newcastle star, it's set to be an uncertain few months.

The 34-year-old is coming to the end of his career at the highest level of the game, with his contract at St James' Park set to expire this summer.

While no official decision has been made on his future, Ritchie has struggled for game time this term having started just one match in all competitions.

But with uncertainty over his role, a number of Newcastle fans have joked that he could be set to stay after all.

"New contract for Ritchie as team bus driver," one Toon fan wrote.

A second said: "When they said Ritchie might get a job as a coach, I didn’t think they meant driver."

Ritchie joined Newcastle eight years ago in the summer of 2016 and has since made 213 appearances, scoring 25 goals.
