Erik ten Hag has lashed out at the "embarrassing" media reaction to Manchester United's FA Cup win over Coventry, branding it a "disgrace".

But Ten Hag has come out fighting after the Red Devils were largely condemned for nearly throwing the match away, having been 3-0 up with 20 minutes to go.

United were heavily criticised by pundits and fans alike, with Jamie Carragher claiming the manner of the performance was so bad that it will cost the Dutchman his job.

Asked whether he understood the response at a press conference ahead of Wednesday's clash against Sheffield United, a feisty Ten Hag replied: "No, absolutely not.

"Football is about results. We made it to the final and deserved it.

"We lost control for 20 minutes and were very lucky in the end but we made it to the final. That is a huge achievement.

"The reaction from you [the media] was embarrassing. Twice [two FA Cup finals] in two years, it is magnificent.

“For me as manager, four cup finals in four years. The comments are a disgrace.”

It is not the first time Ten Hag has blown his top with the media, walking out of his press conference earlier this month after refusing to answer one question.

United reached the FA Cup final after beating Coventry on penalties despite being 3-0 up with 20 minutes to go.

The Championship outfit nearly pulled off one of the greatest upsets in FA Cup history when Ellis Simms and Callum O'Hare netted in the 71st minute and 79th minute before Haji Wright converted from the penalty spot in the 95th minute.

It sent the match to extra-time where Coventry thought they won it in the 121st minute when Victor Torp scored but Wright was slightly offside in the build-up, sending the game to penalties.

O'Hare and Ben Sheaf missed their spot-kicks as Rasmus Hojlund converted the match-winning penalty to spark celebrations in the United camp.

That included Antony, who was spotted goading Coventry players, but Ten Hag insisted the Brazilian was first provoked.

"He [Antony] was [provoked] and should not react like this," he said.

"You have not seen the provocation, only the reaction, but he should not do it.

"We should acknowledge the performance of Coventry, coming back at 70 minutes when we dominated the game.

"The game must be closed, but the comeback from their side was very good."
